SET in collaboration with University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce promotes entrepreneurship and capital market knowledge

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) and University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with an objective to promote entrepreneurship and the capital market knowledge by jointly designing and developing courses, learning guidelines, and advanced workshops to cope with changes in the digital new normal era, while grooming quality personnel for the society.

SET President Pakorn Peetathawatchai said that SET has committed our vision “To make the capital market Work for everyone.” One key area is to promote and disseminate knowledge particularly among the new generation consisting of university students in the fields of investment and entrepreneurship, to equip them with basic crucial for becoming quality personnel in every industry. The stronger the fundamental for growth is built, the steadier and more sustainable the Thai economy and society will be.

“SET has recently signed the MoU with UTCC to promote the entrepreneurship and capital market knowledge among students following a series of collaborations. This MoU aims at providing the leading-edge and practical contents and case studies about finance, investment and entrepreneurship knowledge in line with today’s changes. Significantly, the SET knowledge and expertise will be integrated into the university curriculum and then effectively transferred to students, lecturers, university staff and the public to be further applied for maximum benefits. This collaboration will be instrumental in producing quality human capital for the society as a whole,” Pakorn said.

UTCC President Associate Professor Dr. Thanavath Phonvichai said that UTCC’s core mission is to be a ‘practice’ university that provides students with practical knowledge and skills especially the skills in applying innovations and digital tools for business operations or the so-called Innovation Driven Entrepreneurship (IDE). The objective of this collaboration with SET is to transfer knowledge and understanding about finance, investment and entrepreneurship to students with opportunities to gain expertise and lessons learned from SET experts.

For example, the course that initiates The NEXT Gen project to produce next generation entrepreneurs will be developed for the undergraduates; the Accredited Investment and Securities Analyst (AISA) program will be integrated with the Analyst MBA (aMBA) curriculum for the postgraduates to produce personnel capable of investment analysis and management; innovative research studies as well as the design and development of learning & teaching approach in the trading lab. This will be a new learning dimension and allow the university students to gain first-hand experience from the professionals.

Furthermore, UTCC in the 2021 academic year improves curriculum to keep pace with today’s business world and brace for the future. The move, in collaboration with over 100,000 business organizations in the Thai Chamber of Commerce network and those under Young Entrepreneur Chamber of Commerce (YEC) program, is aimed at emphasizing the university’s position as a leading business educational institution where students can learn from real business world experience.

“The joint efforts are a step forward to speed up the number of quality personnel, aiming that UTCC plays a part in supporting changes and sustainability in the business sector and the Thai capital market,” Thanavath added.

SET has collaborated with numerous universities nationwide since 2004. A total of over 400,000 university students have acquired finance and investment knowledge through activities and projects such as SET Corners (128 sites), seven SET Investment Centers (SET ICs), SET @ Campus activities, and training sessions, as well as the inclusion of capital market knowledge in university curriculum, among other activities.
